Pair of Double-Doubles Power Monroe Express Women’s Basketball to win over Westchester

VALHALLA, N.Y., February 22, 2018 – Led by double-doubles from Ariana Jones and Jatekqua Bell, the Monroe Express women's basketball team topped Westchester Community College, 58-39, to sweep the season-series against the Vikings.
 
Up by four at the end of the first quarter, the Express outscored the Vikings by three in the second to take a seven-point, 27-20, lead into the halftime break.
 
And after outscoring Westchester 19-4 in the third quarter, the Express pulled away, and took home a 58-39 victory.
 
Jones led the Express with 14 points, adding 10 rebounds for her third-career double-double. Frances Morales tallied 11 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, while Jatekqua Bell scored 10 points to go along with a career-high 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.
 
Tatyana Forde also scored in double figures for Monroe, tallying 10.
 
The win snaps a nine-game losing streak for the Express, who move to 7-15 on the season with two games to play.
 
The Express wrap up their home-portion of their 2017-18 season on Friday, Feb. 23 when they take on Baltimore City Community College at 5 p.m. at the Monroe Athletic Complex.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
