LOCH SHELDRAKE, N.Y., February 20, 2018 – The Monroe Express men's basketball team fell just short in their upset bid of second-ranked Sullivan County Community College, as the Generals topped the Express, 66-61 on Tuesday.
Though the Express shot 44.6 percent from the field and trailed by just one at the break, Sullivan County outscored Monroe by four in the second half, to squeeze out a 66-61 victory.
Ghetty Allui led the Express with 16 points, while
Taffari Jarvis added 12 points, nine assists and eight rebounds, falling an assist shy of a double-double and two rebounds shy of a triple-double.
Steven Hernandez also scored in double figures for the Express, tallying 11 points of 5-for-6 shooting.
With the loss, the Express drop to 11-15 on the season.
The Express wrap up their inaugural season on Saturday, Feb. 24 when they take on the Monroe Mustangs' JV men's basketball team at 1 p.m. at the Monroe Athletic Complex.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
