Monroe Express Men’s Basketball Falls Short against Monroe Mustangs’ JV Men’s Basketball

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., February 24, 2018Ghetty Allui scored 23 points, but the Monroe Express men's basketball team fell to the Monroe Mustangs' JV men's basketball team in their first-ever intra-college matchup, 74-64, on Saturday at the Monroe Athletic Complex.
 
After the Mustangs scored the first bucket of the game, the Express tied things up and took their first lead with 17:49 to play in the first half on Gian Batista's three-pointer.
 
However, the Mustangs responded to retake the lead with a 9-0 run, and the Express would play from behind the rest of the way.
 
The Express cut the deficit to two five times the rest of the way, but they were never able to tie it.
 
The Express trailed, 39-33, at the half, and the Mustangs pulled away with a late 5-0 run to pick up a 74-64 victory.
 
Allui led the way for the Express with 23 points, his seventh 20-point performance of the season, while Batista added 11 and Louis Florimon tallied 10.
 
Jessy Jimenez led the Mustangs on the glass with seven rebounds, while Florimon also added seven assists and Kashawn Middleton tallied three points and three rebounds on his Sophomore Day.
 
With the loss, the Express wrap up the season 11-16, but finish strong with a 9-6 record in 2018.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
