NEWARK, N.J, February 1, 2018 – The Monroe Express women's basketball team fell on the road at Essex County College, 60-44, dropping to 6-11 on the season.
Though the Express trailed by just two at the end of the first quarter, the Wolverines went on a run in the second and took a 15-point, 36-21 lead into halftime.
The Express outscored Essex County, 12-10 in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 13, but the Wolverines pulled away in the fourth to pick up a 60-44 victory.
Briyanna Graham and
Tatyana Forde each led the Express with 14 points, while
Ariana Jones added 13, a career-high.
Jatekqua Bell led Monroe on the glass with eight rebounds, also a career-high, while Jones and Graham added six apiece.
The Express are back in action when they return home to the Monroe Athletic Complex in New Rochelle, N.Y. to take on Dutchess Community College at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
