Monroe Express Women’s Basketball Bounces Back with 59-50 win over Queensborough

BAYSIDE, N.Y., December 8, 2018 – The Monroe Mustangs women's basketball team topped the Queensborough Community College Tigers, 59-50, on Saturday, bouncing back from a tough-loss to Nassau for their third win in four games against Region XV opponents.
 
The Express led, 13-9, at the end of the first quarter, but trailed at the half, 29-25, after the Tigers outscored them by eight points in the second quarter.
 
However the Express rallied in the second half, retaking the lead in the third quarter and pulling away in the fourth, outscoring the Tigers by 13, 34-21, in the second half to earn a 59-50 victory.
 
With the win, the Express move to 5-8 (4-3 Region XV) on the season, while Queensborough drops to 5-5 (3-4 Region XV).
 
Maryam Camara tallied a team-high 11 points and nine rebounds, while Julie Trowers notched 10 points, six rebounds and five assists. Tatyana Forde led the Express off the bench with nine points, while Dawn Franklin totaled five points and seven boards off bench.
 
The Express return home to the Monroe Athletic Complex in New Rochelle, N.Y. on Friday, Dec. 14 where they'll take on Harford Community College at 6 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, and the newly added club men's volleyball team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
