GARDEN CITY, N.Y., December 6, 2018 – Down by seven at the half, Monroe Express men's basketball rallied to pull within one with just over 20 seconds remaining, and had a shot to win at the buzzer, but they couldn't convert and fell, 90-88, to Nassau Community College on Thursday.
After trailing by seven at halftime, the Express stormed back, outscoring the Lions, 56-51 in the second half.
However, trailing by a point with just over 20 seconds remaining, the Express weren't able to take the lead on a missed three-pointer and were forced to foul. The Lions converted just one-of-two from the line, but Monroe's last-second heave didn't fall and the Express fell, 90-88, as their late rally fell just short.
With the loss, the Express fall to 4-6 (2-5 Region XV) on the season, while the Lions stay unbeaten in region play, at 9-3 (5-0).
Christopher Davis scored a team-high 16 points to go along with 13 rebounds to lead the Express with a double-double, his third of the season.
Ghetty Dimitri Allui,
Gian Batista and
Tyhj Peterson joined Davis in double-figures with 14, 14 and 13 points apiece, while
Moussa Sanogo added 12 points off the bench.
Peterson also recorded a team-high seven assists, while Davis had a team-high two blocks.
The Express next head to Bayside, N.Y. on Dec. 8 to take on the Queensborough Community College Tigers at 3 p.m.
