BAYSIDE, N.Y., December 8, 2018 – Five players scored in double-figures as Monroe Express men's basketball earned an 87-84 victory over the Queensborough Community College Tigers on Saturday.
The Express trailed by a point at the half, but came back in the second half to defeat the Tigers, 87-84, outscoring Queensborough, 47-43, in the second half.
Dashawn Hines led the Express with 19 points and 15 rebounds, all coming off the bench, while
Gian Batista led the starting unit with 18 points and 13 rebounds as both players recorded double-doubles. For Hines, it's his fifth double-double of the season, while Batista recorded his first, and the eighth of his career.
Christopher Davis added 17 points and six rebounds for the Express, while
Moussa Sanogo and
Arturo Sealy both scored in double-figures off the bench, with 13 and 12 points apiece.
Sanogo tied Batista for a team-high five assists, while Batista and Hines led the Express defensively, Batista with five steals and Hines with four blocks.
After a finals week break, the Express hit the road to take on MassBay Community College on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. in Wellesley Hills, Mass.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, and the newly added club men's volleyball team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
