MIDDLETOWN, N.Y., November 8, 2018 – Monroe Express women's basketball fell on the road to Orange County Community College, 71-52, on Thursday, dropping to 1-3 (1-0 Region XV) on the season.
The Colts led by four after the first quarter, 20-16, but built a 14-point lead heading into halftime, outscoring the Express in the second quarter, 18-8.
Monroe equaled the Colts' output in the third, but the Colts held onto their double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter, pulling away with a 71-52 victory.
Julie Trowers again led the Express with 15 points, adding six rebounds and three assists, while
Tatyana Forde scored 13 points and seven rebounds.
Maryam Camara led the Express on the defensive end with 11 rebounds and two blocked shots.
The Express head to Rochester, N.Y. on Friday for the Murph Shapiro Tournament beginning on Saturday, Nov. 10. The Express will open tournament play against Union County College on Nov. 10 at 2 p.m., before playing either Monroe Community College or Sullivan County Community College on Sunday, Nov. 11 to wrap up the tournament
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, and the newly added club men's volleyball team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
