SUFFERN, N.Y., November 17, 2018 – Fueled by two 20-point performances and another two double-doubles, Monroe Express men's basketball defeated Rockland Community College on Saturday, 98-87. With the win, the Express move to 3-2 (1-1 Region XV) on the season.
Monroe led by just three at halftime, 44-41, but pulled away from the Hawks in the second half, outscoring Rockland 54-46 to pick up the non-conference victory.
Gian Batista led the Express with 24 points, while
Arturo Sealy added a career-high 23, including 5-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc.
Andres Melendez and
Christopher Davis each recorded a double-double, with Melendez tallying 16 points and 15 rebounds while Davis totaled 15 points and 11 boards, falling three assists shy of a triple-double.
The Express next take on the Hostos Community College Caimans on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 8 p.m. in the Bronx.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, and the newly added club men's volleyball team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
