BRONX, N.Y., November 20, 2018 –
Andres Melendez and
Dashawn Hines recorded double-doubles and four Express players scored in double-figures, but the Monroe Express men's basketball team fell to Hostos Community College, 102-85, on Tuesday.
The Express trailed by just five, 42-37, at the half, but the Caimans were able to pull away in the second half, outscoring Monroe, 60-48, to take home a 102-85 victory.
With the loss, the Express fall to 3-3 (1-2 Region XV) on the season, while the Caimans move to 4-3 (3-1 Region XV) on the season.
Hines led the Express with 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting, adding 10 points for his third double-double of the season.
Christopher Davis and
Ghetty Dimitri Allui also scored in double-figures for the Express, netting 19 and 17 points apiece, while
Andres Melendez notched his second-consecutive double-double with 11 points and 11 boards.
The Express will look to bounce back when they return from Thanksgiving break to take on the Dutchess Community College Falcons on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 8 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, and the newly added club men's volleyball team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
