Monroe College Express Men’s Soccer Races Past Kingsborough, 10-3

BROOKLYN, N.Y., October 9, 2018Ryan Smart netted a hat trick and seven different Express student-athletes scored as Monroe Express men's soccer topped Kingsborough Community College, 10-3, on Tuesday to move to 6-3 (6-2 Region XV) on the season.
 
Smart got the Express on the board just under four minutes into the contest, and from there, Monroe never looked back, scoring nine first-half goals to take a 9-0 lead into the halftime break.
 
A little under two minutes after his seventh goal of the season, Smart netted another, finishing off the assist from Amadu Jalloh in the 6th minute to give the Express a 2-0 lead.
 
Mamadou Diombera made it 3-0 a little over five minutes later, before Smart finished off his hat trick just 20:33 into the match.
 
Up 4-0 though, the Express continuing their onslaught, as Amadu Jalloh made it 5-0 in the 25th minute, and Diombera scored his second of the game in the 28th minute, off an assist from Keshane Bedward.
 
After assisting Diombera on his second goal, Bedward got in on the scoring action in the 29th minute, before Walter Lacayo and Nasara Braimah each scored their first goals of the season before the end of the half to make it a 9-0 lead.
 
The Wave scored two early on in the second half, but the Express held firm before Balvin West's 52nd-minute goal made it 10-2. Kingsborough tacked on one more to make it 10-3, but the Express held off the Wave the rest of the way to earn 10-3 victory.
 
Smart led the Express with the first hat trick of his career, tallying three goals on seven shots. Amadu Jalloh added two assists in addition to his goal, while Mustapha Ceesay made three saves in goal for Monroe.
 
The Express will look to make it three-straight against Region XV foes when they host Suffolk County Community College on Sophomore Night on Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. at Flowers Park in New Rochelle, N.Y.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
