Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Monroe Express Men’s Soccer Bests Suffolk County, 2-0, on Sophomore Night

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., October 13, 2018Amadu Jalloh and Mamadou Diombera's second-half goals gave the Express a lead they'd never relinquish, as Monroe Express men's soccer took down Region XV-foe Suffolk County Community College, 2-0, on Saturday at Flowers Park.

Both keepers, Mustapha Ceesay and Nicholas Reyes, combined to keep the Express and Sharks off the scoreboard in the first half, as none of the combined 12 shots found the net.

Monroe and Suffolk County headed into the half scoreless, but just over nine minutes into the second half, Abdoul Sangare found a streaking Amadu Jalloh, who gave the Express a 1-0 lead. Jalloh scored his second goal of the season, chipping it over the keeper on the assist from Sangare.

And just over seven minutes later, Mamadou Diombera streaked down the middle of the field, beat the keeper and knocked in a shot facing a wide open net, his twelfth goal of the year, to extend Monroe's lead to 2-0.

From there, the Express defense held strong, holding off a late Sharks charge including four-straight corners in the span of less than two minutes, to give the Express a huge, 2-0 victory.

With the win, the Express move to 7-2 (7-3 Region XV) on the season, and are on step closer to securing a Region XV Playoff berth.

The Express wrap up the 2018 regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 16 when they travel to Suffern, N.Y. to take on Rockland Community College at 4 p.m.
