Monroe Express Women’s Basketball Tops Kingsborough in OT, 63-57

BROOKLYN, N.Y., January 6, 2018 – Behind three players scoring in double figures, the Monroe Express women's basketball team came from behind to defeat Kingsborough Community College in overtime, 63-57.
 
The Express trailed the Wave, 13-9 at the end of the first quarter, and 28-21 at the half, but rallied back to send the game into overtime, tied at 52.
 
Monroe scored 19 in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to five heading to the fourth quarter where they outscored Kingsborough, 12-7 to tie the game at 52.
 
And in the overtime period, the Express outscored the Wave, 11-5, to snap a five-game losing streak and take home a 63-57 victory.
 
Tatyana Forde led the Express with a season-high 26 points, shooting 55.6 percent from the floor and 46.2 percent from beyond the arc. Muray Nelson and Frances Morales also scored in double figures for the Express, with 16 and 10 points apiece, while Morales also led the Express with six assists.
 
As a team, Monroe shot 52.1 percent from the floor and 38.9 percent from beyond the arc.
 
The Express continue their road-stretch on Tuesday, Jan. 9 as they head to Bayside, N.Y. to take on Queensborough Community College at 5:30 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
