Monroe Express Women’s Basketball Falls to Queensborough

BAYSIDE, N.Y., January 9, 2018 – The Monroe Express women's basketball team fell to the Queensborough Community College Tigers, 52-37, at the RFK Gym Building, dropping to 4-6 on the season.
 
Though the Express led 11-7 at the end of the first quarter, Monroe struggled in the second quarter and headed into halftime down 19-12.
 
Queensborough extended their lead out to 12 at the end of the third quarter, before pulling away in the fourth quarter with the 52-37 victory.
 
Tatyana Forde led the Express in scoring for the second consecutive game, scoring 17 points on five three-pointers. But Monroe couldn't find their touch from the floor, shooting just 18.7 percent and 17.2 percent from beyond the arc.
 
Muray Nelson and Tonaya Hollis each recorded double-digit rebounding performances in the loss for the Express, with Hollis tallying a season-high 11 rebounds.
 
The Express return to the Monroe Athletic Complex on Saturday, Jan. 13 for their first home game of 2018, as they take on Westchester Community College at 3 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
