BRONX, N.Y., January 25, 2018 –
Tatyana Forde scored a team-high 12 points, but No. 1-ranked Hostos Community College proved to be too much for the Monroe Express women's basketball team, who fell, 79-36, on Thursday at The Swamp.
The Express trailed by just two at the end of the first quarter, but after the Caimans outscored Monroe, 22-5 in the second quarter, the Express headed into halftime down by 19.
From there, Hostos pulled away, outscoring the Express 46-22 in the second half to pick up a 79-36 victory.
Forde led the Express with 10 points, while
Frances Morales also scored in double-figures for Monroe with 10. With the loss, the Express drop to 6-9 on the season.
The Express return to action on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. when they travel to Roxbury Crossing, Mass. to take on fourth-ranked Roxbury Community College.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
