BRONX, N.Y., January 25, 2018 –
Ghetty Allui scored 24 points, including 20 in the first half, and
Gian Batista recorded his fifth double-double of the season, but the Monroe Express men's basketball team fell on the road to Hostos Community College, 75-71.
Led by Allui's 20 first half points, the Express trailed by just one, 35-34, at the halftime break. But the Caimans outscored Monroe 40-37 in the second half to pull away for a four-point, 75-71 victory.
The loss snapped the Express' three-game winning streak, and dropped Monroe's record to 8-12 on the season.
Allui led the Express with 24, while Batista tallied 21 points and 10 rebounds as well as five assists, for his fifth-career double-double.
Louis Florimon also scored in double figures for the Express, tallying 14 points, two assists and two steals.
The Express will look to start a new winning streak when they travel to Newark, N.J. to take on Essex County College on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
