Monroe Express Women’s Basketball Zooms Past Bronx, 71-35

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., January 16, 2018Briyanna Graham and Tataya Forde recorded double-doubles as the Monroe Express women's basketball team topped Bronx Community College, 71-35 on Tuesday at the Monroe Athletic Complex.
 
The Express and Broncos traded buckets to open the game before Monroe raced ahead, taking a 17-2 lead behind a 15-0 run. From there, the Express never looked back, as they finished the half on a 5-0 run and led, 22-4, at the end of the first quarter.
 
Neither team could find a bucket for much of the second quarter, with both Monroe and the Bronx going scoreless from the 5:07 mark of the second quarter until 55 seconds left in the second half.
 
Still though, the Express outscored the Broncos, 15-8 in the quarter and took a 37-12 lead into halftime.
 
Monroe held the Broncos to just 16.2 percent shooting in the first half, and scored 14 points off 14 Bronx turnovers.
 
The Express opened the second half on a 5-0 run to open up a 30-point lead, and from there they never led by less than 26, leading by 29 at the end of the third quarter and extending their lead out to 36 in the fourth quarter to pick up a 71-35 victory.
 
With the victory, the Express move back to .500 on the season and sit at 6-6 with nine games left to play.
 
Four Express players tallied double-figures, with Graham leading the way with 18. Graham also tallied her second double-double of the season, adding 11 points and six assists to her stat line.

Frances Morales, Ariana Jones and Forde joined Graham in double figures, scoring 12, 12 and 11 points each. Morales added seven assists and six rebounds, while Forde recorded her first double-double of the season, with 14 rebounds to go along with her 11 points.
 
On the glass, Muray Nelson tallied double figure rebounds for the fifth time this season, cleaning up with 10 rebounds to go along with six rebounds.
 
The Express are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. when they travel to Brooklyn, N.Y. to wrap up their season series with Kingsborough Community College.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
