Monroe Express Men’s Basketball Falls Short Against Fifth-Ranked Suffolk County

SELDEN, N.Y., January 11, 2018 – Five players in scored in double figures for the second-consecutive game for the Monroe Express men's basketball team, but fifth-ranked Suffolk County Community College still proved to be too much, as the Express fell, 101-72.
 
The Sharks jumped out to an early lead on the Express and headed into halftime up 54-33. And in the second half, Suffolk County pulled away, eventually taking home a 29-point victory.
 
Taffari Jarvis led the Express in the box score with 14 points, adding five rebounds, six assists and three steals. Joining Jarvis in double figures were Louis Florimon, Steven Hernandez, Jessy Jimenez and Ghetty Allui, who each tallied 13, 12, 11 and 10 points, respectively.
 
Gian Batista, who failed to reach double figures in points for just the second time this season, led the Express on the glass with six rebounds.
 
With the loss, the Express drop to 5-11 on the season and snap their two-game winning streak.
 
The Express will look to get back on track when they return home to the Monroe Athletic Complex on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 8 p.m. to take on Bronx Community College. Monroe took on the Broncos early on in the season, falling by the score of 68-62.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
