GARDEN CITY, N.Y., December 7, 2017 –
Muray Nelson's second career double-double wasn't enough, as the Monroe Express women's basketball team fell to the Nassau Community College Lions, 55-37, on Thursday.
The Express got off to a rough start against the Lions, as they shot just 22.7 percent from the field against Nassau, and trailed, 38-7 at the half.
And while the Express outscored Nassau, 12-11 in the third quarter and 18-8 in the fourth, Monroe couldn't overcome the halftime deficit and fell to the Lions, 55-37.
Briyanna Graham led the Express with 15 points, while Graham totaled 10 points and 13 rebounds for her second career double-double.
Monroe just couldn't find their range against the Lions, shooting 22.7 percent from the game, and just 14.8 percent from beyond the arc as they fall to 3-5 on the season.
Following winter break, the Express open the New Year against the Borough of Manhattan Community College on Thursday, Jan. 4 at 6 p.m. at the Monroe Athletic Complex.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
