LOCH SHELDRAKE, N.Y., December 5, 2017 – The Monroe Express men's basketball team outscored Sullivan County Community College by six in the second half, but fell, 73-60, to the Generals on Tuesday at Paul Gerry Fieldhouse.
Behind a late first-half run, Sullivan County took a 45-26 lead into halftime against the Express.
And while Monroe battled back in the second half, cutting the deficit to 12 with just under three minutes away, the Express couldn't get any closer and fell, 73-60, dropping to 2-7 on the season.
Gian Batista led the Express with 14 points, while
Jessy Jimenez and
Ghetty Allui each tallied double-doubles. Jimenez tallied 11 points and 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season, while Allui's 10 points and 13 rebounds combined for his first career double-double.
Jovan Bellamy joined Batista, Allui and Jimenez in double figures with a season-high 12 points, falling one rebound shy of being the third Express player to record a double-double.
Monroe shot 43.9 percent from the field, but couldn't find their range from beyond the arc, shooting just 2-for-12 from three.
The Express continue their road stretch, heading to Garden City, N.Y. to take on the tenth-ranked Nassau Community College Lions on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 8 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
