Monroe Express Men’s Basketball Drops Overtime Thriller at CNC Leadership Prep

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y., December 28, 2017Gian Batista and Taffari Jarvis combined for 50 points, and each recorded a double-double, but it wasn't enough as the Monroe Express men's basketball team fell in overtime to CNC Leadership Prep, 86-79.
 
Though the Express tailed by three to CNC at the half, 39-36, Monroe rallied back to tie the game at the end of regulation, 76-76 and send the game into overtime.
 
But with multiple players in foul trouble – three Express players fouled out while two more finished the game with four fouls – Monroe only managed three points in overtime and fell to CNC Leadership Prep, 86-79, dropping to 3-10 on the season.
 
Batista led the way for the Express with a season-high 30 points, shooting just over 41 percent from the floor. Batista also added 16 rebounds, two assists and two steals, to record his third career double-double.
 
Jarvis also tallied a double-double, the first of his career, as he scored 20 points to go along with 17 rebounds, three assists and three steals.
 
The Express open the 2018 portion of their schedule at home at the Monroe Athletic Complex on Thursday, Jan. 4 when they take on the Borough of Manhattan Community College at 8 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
