POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y., November 9, 2017 – The Monroe Express men's basketball team fell to Dutchess Community College, 98-78 on Thursday.
At the half, Monroe trailed Dutchess, 49-32, and although Monroe was able to cut into the Falcons' lead in the second half, Dutchess eventually pulled away to take home a 98-87 victory.
Four players tallied double-figures for the Express, including two who recorded double-doubles.
Gian Batista tallied 17 points and 10 rebounds, while
Luis Aviles scored 15 points and pulled down 10 boards, both recording their first double-double of the season.
Demetris Fasoye and
Ghetty Allui also tallied double-figures with 14 and 11 points, respectively, and Fasoye fell one rebound short of being the third Express player to record a double-double.
The Express now head to Selden, N.Y. to take on Suffolk County Community College on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, will have six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning in the fall of 2017.
