New York, N.Y., November 30, 2017 – The Monroe Express women's basketball team fell short against the Borough of Manhattan Community College Panthers, 60-25 on Thursday.
The Panthers took the early lead against Monroe and never looked back, taking a 17-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 27-14 lead into the break before pulling away with a 25-point third quarter.
Briyanna Graham led the Express with 10 points, falling two rebounds shy of her first career double-double.
Jatekqua Bell added seven points for Monroe, while
Muray Nelson tallied five-plus rebounds for the fourth time in her last four games.
With the loss, the Express drop to .500 on the season, sitting at 3-3.
Monroe heads to Loch Sheldrake, N.Y. for their next matchup where they'll take on the Sullivan County Community College Generals on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
