Monroe Express Men’s Basketball Bested by BMCC

New York, N.Y., November 30, 2017 – The Monroe Express men's basketball team fell to the Borough of Manhattan Community College Panthers, 103-69 on Thursday.
 
The Express struggled out of the gate, as BMCC opened the game on a 7-0 run, and the Panthers never trailed the rest of the way, taking a 59-29 lead into halftime.
 
After the Panthers opened the second half on another run, Monroe responded with a run of their own, cutting the deficit to 23 midway through the second half.
 
BMCC responded though, and extended their lead once again. And while Monroe was able to cut the deficit down to 21, its lowest point in the second half, with just over three minutes to play, the Panthers held the Express scoreless over the final 3:40 of the second half and took home a 103-69 victory.
 
Gian Batista led the Express with 15 points, while Ghetty Allui tallied 11 points and fell one rebound shy of a double-double. Louis Florimon, Jovan Bellamy and Jessy Jimenez added nine points apiece for the Express, who shot 38 percent from the floor.  
 
The Express return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. when they visit Sullivan County Community College in Loch Sheldrake, N.Y. to take on the Generals.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
