NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., November 21, 2017 – The Monroe Express women's basketball team lost for the first time this season, falling to No. 5 Hostos Community College, 94-34, Tuesday at the Monroe Athletic Complex.
Though the Express scored the first bucket of the game, Hostos quickly surged ahead and took a 49-16 lead into halftime, and eventually pulled away with a 94-34 victory in the second half.
Briyanna Graham led the Express with 11 points to go along with four rebounds and five steals, while
Jatekqua Bell added seven points and three rebounds.
With the loss, the Express drop to 3-1 on the season.
The Express return to action after Thanksgiving Break on Tuesday, Nov. 28 when they travel to Troy, N.Y. to take on Hudson Valley Community College at 6 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, will have six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning in the fall of 2017.
