UPDATE: Due to an ineligible player, Hostos forfeited their Nov. 21 game against the Monroe Express

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., November 21, 2017 – The Monroe Express men's basketball team fell to Hostos Community College, 112-89, Tuesday night at the Monroe Athletic Complex, dropping to 1-6 on the season.
 
After the Express scored first on an early three by Jovan Bellamy, the Caimans and Express went back-and-forth throughout the first half, with Hostos maintaining a slight edge heading into the final few minutes before the break.
 
But with 2:42 remaining in the first half, the Express went cold from the field and Hostos went on a 14-3 run over the final two and a half minutes to take a 50-33 lead into the break.
 
Monroe was able to cut the Caimans lead down to 14 early on in the second half, but Hostos again pulled away and took home a 112-89 victory.
 
Gian Batista and Jessy Jimenez led the Express with 12 points apiece, while Luis Aviles and Demetris Fasoye added 10 points each.
 
Jovan Bellamy led the Express on the glass with 10 rebounds, while adding four points and a block.
 
Monroe shot 42.7 percent from the floor, but the Caimans shot just a bit better at 53.3 percent from the field.
 
The Express return to action after Thanksgiving Break on Thursday, Nov. 30 when they travel to New York, N.Y. to take on the Borough of Manhattan Community College at 7:30 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, will have six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning in the fall of 2017.
