Monroe Express Men’s Basketball Falls to Westchester, 101-74

UPDATE: Due to an ineligible player, Westchester Community College forfeited their Nov. 2 game against the Monroe Express

VALHALLA, N.Y., November 2, 2017 – The Monroe Express men's basketball team fell in their first game of their inaugural season, 101-74, to Westchester Community College, Thursday in Valhalla, N.Y., falling to 0-1 on the season.
 
After the Vikings took an early lead, the Express battled back to cut the deficit to single digits, trailing 24-16 with just over 12 minutes to play in the first half.
 
But Westchester came back with a run of their own and took a 56-39 lead heading into halftime.
 
In the second half though, the Vikings pulled away and topped the Express, 101-74.
 
Louis Florimon and Kashawn Middleton led the way for the Express, each tallying 16 points. Florimon shot 6-of-6 from the field, including 4-for-4 from behind the arc, while also adding two steals and two assists. Middleton shot 7-for-8 from the field, while Monroe shot 78.1 percent overall from the floor.
 
Defensively, Ghetty Allui led the Express with nine rebounds to go along with two steals and seven points.
 
The Express will look to even their record at 1-1 when they visit Bronx Community College on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 8 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, will have six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning in the fall of 2017.
