SUFFERN, N.Y., November 18, 2017 – The Monroe Express men's basketball team defeated the Rockland Community College Hawks, 66-59, to pick up their win of the season and their first win in program history on Saturday.
Trailing by one at the half, the Express rallied to outscore Rockland by right in the second half to take home a 66-59 victory.
Gian Batista led the way for the Express on the offensive end, tallying 17 points, nine rebounds and a block.
Jessy Jimenez added a double-double, the first of his career, with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Jovan Bellamy led the Express on the defensive end with four blocks, while Batista led Monroe with four steals, setting a new career-high.
With the win, the Express move to 1-5 on the season and are back in action when they return home to take on Hostos Community College on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. at the Monroe Athletic Complex in New Rochelle, N.Y.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, will have six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning in the fall of 2017.
