Fitzroy Saunders joined the Monroe University - Bronx men's basketball program as an assistant coach in August of 2022. He creates workout plans to allow the students to develop their skills, organizes the practice and game schedules, works with the school community to uphold scholars to a standard of excellence and compliance with academia, and creates game plans with the student-athletes that provide them with the tools to successfully engage and communicate with one another on the court.Â
In his three seasons with the team, Saunders helped lead the Express to a 61-33 overall record. He guided the Express to the Region 15 Championship Game during the 2024-25 season. Under Saunders' leadership, Monroe advanced to the regional semifinal round three times.
Saunders earned his bachelor's degree in applied psychology from SUNY Canton in May of 2017. Six months later, he received his certification in crisis prevention and intervention from Democracy Prep Harlem Elementary. Â
