BRONX – The defending four-time district champion Monroe University – Bronx women's volleyball team will open the 2026 season on Saturday with a pair of matches at Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn. The Express will battle the host-Wave in a Region 15 contest at noon and then tangle with Northern Essex Community College in a non-region affair at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Last season, the Express captured the North Atlantic B District Championship, advanced to the Region 15 Championship Match, and earned their fourth consecutive berth in the NJCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament.

The Express look to reach even greater heights this upcoming season. "The goals for the season are to develop the players' IQs on the court, being able to compete in the national tournament again, and to have the student-athletes play disciplined volleyball," Fourth-Year Monroe – Bronx Head Coach Odaly Aponte-Orta said.

The roster for the Express will have four returners and three newcomers to start the year. Two of the three new players are freshman.

One of the returning players this year is middle blocker Robyn Eddy. "I want to be able to play my best," Eddy said. "I want to help build up my teammates and return to nationals."

Aponte-Orta will once again be assisted by Madelayne Perez and Mykalee Chambers.

The Express face a challenging schedule with a pair of matches against nationally ranked teams (No. 11 Hudson Valley Community College and then No. 13 Finger Lakes Community College at the latter's campus on October 11). Monroe will have 17 matches against regional opponents.

The home opener for Monroe will be on Thursday, September 10, against Union County College (N.J.), inside Roberto Clemente State Park Gymnasium, beginning at 7 p.m. In fact, all Express women's volleyball home matches this year will be at RCSP State Park Gym, located less than a mile from the Monroe University - Bronx campus.

The Express will close out the regular season on its home floor against regional-rival Kingsborough for sophomore night on October 23 at 7 p.m.
