BRONX – The Monroe University – Bronx Athletics Department celebrated its baseball and softball student-athletes with an awards dinner inside Mintz Gym this past Monday.
It was a successful spring season.
The Express baseball team captured the Region 15 Championship, going 3-0 in the regional postseason, and earned a berth in the upcoming Northeast District Championship Series. There were 10 All-Region honorees for baseball and Head Coach
Bryan Diaz was named the Region 15 Coach of the Year.
The softball team competed in the Region 15 Postseason and forced a rubber game in the best-of-three first-round series against Dutchess Community College. The Express softball program produced eight All-Region honorees, including Region 15 Gold Glove Winner and All-Region first-team honoree
Tiara Desanto.

David Spiegel delivered opening remarks on stage. Diaz and Express Softball Head Coach
Lauren Farina each presented the award winners for their respective teams.

The Express baseball team once again earned the academic award for highest team GPA during the winter semester.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the esports program, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
