BELLEROSE, N.Y. – The Monroe University – Bronx Express baseball team delivered a dominant performance on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Borough of Manhattan Community College 16–0 at Padavan-Preller Field in Region 15 action. The Express improve to 12–7 overall and remain unbeaten in regional play at 7–0. Monroe extends its winning streak to eight games.
On the mound,
Adrian Hernandez was dominant from start to finish for the Express. The right-hander tossed a five-inning no-hitter, striking out 13 batters without issuing a walk to earn the win and improve to 2–0 on the season. It marked Hernandez's second no-hitter of the season as he also tossed a no-no against Bronx Community College back on March 26. He becomes the first player in program history to toss multiple no-hitters during his time with the Express.
The Express wasted no time getting on the board, scoring two runs in the opening inning.
Elijah Andino drove in the first run with a ground out before
Adrian Nunez followed with an RBI single to give the Express an early 2–0 advantage.
The Blue and Gold added another run in the second inning when
Anthony Sanchez tripled and later scored on a
David Echavarria RBI single to extend the lead to 3–0.
Monroe broke the game open in the third inning, erupting for six runs to take full control. Andino, Nunez, and
Juan Carlos Salcedo each drove in runs during the inning, while
Abraham Joaquin Taveras and
Derek Lebron also added RBIs to push the lead to 9–0.
The Express put the game out of reach in the fifth inning, plating seven runs to secure the 16–0 mercy-rule victory.
Robert Herrera, Nunez, and Salcedo each recorded RBI hits in the frame, while additional runs were scored on walks, hit-by-pitches, and defensive miscues by the Panthers (0-7, 0-6 Region 15).
Several Monroe players turned in strong offensive performances in the win. Nunez led the way with a perfect 4-for-4 outing and three RBIs, while Salcedo added two hits and two RBIs. Andino and Echavarria each drove in two runs, and the Express showed patience at the plate with 12 walks as a team.
Monroe finished the contest with 10 hits and 16 runs while holding Borough of Manhattan hitless, highlighting a complete team performance on both sides of the ball.
Monroe University – Bronx will look to continue its strong stretch as the Express prepares for their next matchup against Monroe University – New Rochelle JV on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Roberto Clemente State Park in the Bronx, N.Y. The first pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
