POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Monroe University – Bronx softball team dropped both Region 15 contests to Dutchess Community College, by scores of 13-2 and 15-1, at Dutchess Softball Field on Tuesday afternoon.
In Game 1, the Falcons (7-3, 3-3 Region 15) scored nine runs in the opening inning and never looked back.
Leading the way for Monroe (1-21, 0-4 Region 15) in the opening game was
Michelle Cortes Molina who drilled an RBI double in the top of the third.
Melissa Martinez slapped an RBI single in the top of the second.
Karla Recio Rodriguez singled and scored a run, while
Kimora Thompson crossed home plate.
Rossel Hercules produced a base hit and swiped a bag.
Nevaeh Feliciano singled.
In the circle,
Brianny Estepan started the game and took the loss.
In Game 2, Monroe surrendered six runs in the bottom of the fourth and were never able to get back in the game.
In the top for the fifth, Hercules tripled for the Express and then scored on an RBI ground out courtesy of
Heather Torres to shrink the deficit to 15-1. It was not enough as Dutchess earned the win.
For Monroe, Martinez doubled and
Tiara Desanto stole a base. In the circle,
Kimberly Coste started the game and suffered the loss.
For Dutchess, Kayla Baez had a strong twin bill at the plate and in the circle. As a pitcher, she earned two complete-game victories, struck out 11 batters, walked zero hitters, and gave up just seven hits combined in the doubleheader. At the plate, she went 4-for-6 with a home run, four runs batted in, four runs scored, and three stolen bases during the two regional contests.
Monroe – Bronx will battle the Westchester Community College Club team in a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon. First pitch at West Field is set for 2 p.m.

The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
