BRONX – The Monroe University - Bronx Athletics Department hosted its 2025-26 Fall and Winter Student-Athlete Awards Lunch on April 9 at Mintz Gym.
It was a successful year for the Express fall and winter programs as all five teams qualified for the Region 15 Postseason.
The Express women's volleyball team captured its fourth straight district championship and competed in nationals. The Express women's basketball team won the Region 15 and Northeast District Championships and earned a berth in the quarterfinal round of the NJCAA Women's Basketball Championship Tournament.
The Monroe – Bronx men's basketball team advanced all the way to the Region 15 Championship game for the second year in a row.
The Express men's volleyball team defeated multiple nationally ranked teams this year which earned them an at-large bid into the upcoming inaugural NJCAA Men's Volleyball Championship Tournament.
The Monroe men's soccer team went 8-2-2 in Region 15 play. They defeated nationally ranked No. 10 Nassau Community College in the regional quarterfinal on the road, 2-0, to earn a berth in the Region 15 Semifinals.

David Spiegel entered the stage and delivered remarks congratulating the Express teams. Monroe University President Marc Jerome came up to the podium and delivered encouraging words to our student-athletes and coaches.
Spiegel presented the Team Academic Award. The Express men's basketball team earned the award for having the highest team GPA for the Fall 2025 Semester. It marked the second straight year that the Monroe men's basketball team was bestowed this prestigious honor.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
