Express Softball Drops Two Games to NJCAA Division II Salem

CARNEYS POINT, N.J. – The Monroe University – Bronx softball team fell in both games of its non-region doubleheader to NJCAA Division II Salem Community College, 17-2 and 16-0, at Pennsville Little League Field on Saturday afternoon.

In the opening inning of Game 1, the Mighty Oaks (4-2) scored nine runs and never looked back.

For the Express (0-4), Karla Recio Rodriguez produced two hits, including a double, and scored a run during the contest. Nevaeh Feliciano, Ebony Hernandez, and Rossel Hercules each hit a single. Kimora Thompson crossed home plate.

For Salem, Raegan Wilson did not give up an earned run in five innings pitched to earn the victory.

In Game 2, Jaylene Aguirre hit a three-run homer that began an 11-run first inning for the Mighty Oaks. The tough opening frame put the game out of reach for Monroe – Bronx.

In the circle, Jordyn Busch and Savannah Palverento combined to pitch a no-hitter for Salem.

Helping the Express were Tiara Desanto and Michelle Cortes Molina who each drew a walk and stole a base. Jayda Delgado also picked up a stolen base. In the circle, Heather Torres pitched a scoreless 2/3 of an inning in relief.

Monroe – Bronx will conclude its weekend trip on Sunday with a pair of games at NJCAA Division II Howard Community College. First pitch at Kiwanis Wallas Park in Ellicott City, Md. is set for noon.
