Express Baseball's Strong Late-Game Hitting Leads to Win Over NJCAA Division II Morris

RANDOLPH, N.J. – The Monroe University – Bronx baseball team earned a triumphant victory on the road over NJCAA Division II County College of Morris, 14-1, at CCM Baseball Field on Monday afternoon.

The Express (1-4) trailed 1-0 heading to the top of the fifth but scored all 14 of their runs over the course of the final three innings to secure the win.

Leading the way for the Blue and Gold was starting pitcher Frangel Rodriguez who struck out six batters, gave up no walks, and surrendered just one earned run in seven innings pitched to earn the complete game-victory.

"Great performance by our offense today and an even better performance by Frangel Rodriguez on the mound," Express Head Coach Bryan Diaz said.

In the top of the fifth, Monroe trailed 1-0 and had a runner on third with one out. Pablo Aquino stepped up to the plate and drilled a double to right-center field which scored Ramses Gonzalez to tie the game at one. After Robert Herrera drew a walk, Anthony Sanchez came up and provided the big blow of the inning – a two-run triple to center that gave the Blue and Gold a 3-1 benefit. Then, Joshua Osorio produced an RBI single and then ended up scoring on a run-producing triple courtesy of Elijah Andino to give Monroe a commanding 5-1 hold. Andino ended up scoring the team's sixth run thanks to an RBI groundout by Adrian Nunez.

The Express tacked on a run in the sixth to pad their surplus to 7-1.

Monroe's bats continued to surge in the top of the seventh by scoring seven runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run triple courtesy of Aquino and an RBI single off the bat of Herrera, to inflate Monroe – Bronx 's cushion to 14-1.

Rodriguez sealed the win on the mound in the bottom of the seventh by striking out the last batter of the game to clinch the Express' first victory of the season.

Andino finished the game 3-for-5 and stole two bases. Osorio went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a pair of runs scored. Herrera collected two hits, a pair of stolen bases, and just as many runs scored. Gonzalez doubled, walked twice, and crossed home plate on two occasions. Derek Lebron tripled and scored twice. Nunez drove in a pair of runs and Sanchez scored a duo of times.

Michael Kardasis took the loss for the Titans (0-1) as he went 4 1/3 innings giving up just two earned runs and striking out seven.
