Top-Seeded Express Women's Basketball to Battle #4-Seed Hostos in Region 15 Semifinal on Saturday

BRONX – The nationally ranked No. 7 and the region's top-seeded Monroe University – Bronx women's basketball team will compete in the semifinal round of the Region 15 Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Express will take on fourth-seeded and defending regional champion Hostos Community College, at Brookhaven Gymnasium on the campus of Suffolk County Community College, at 12 p.m.

For fans who are looking to attend the game, it is $10 per ticket. If you cannot make it to Long Island, there will be live video and live stats at www.MonroeExpress.com/Coverage.

This will be a rematch of last year's regional championship game which was won by Hostos, 64-60, on March 2, 2025. This time, these two teams will battle each other to see who will play in the Region 15 Championship Game on Sunday. Monroe looks to advance to the regional title game for the fifth year in a row.

The Express (24-6, 13-1 Region 15) secured a bye into the semifinals. Hostos (10-12, 7-7 Region 15) earned a thrilling overtime victory over No. 5-seed Suffolk County Community College, 57-53, in the opening round of the regional postseason at The Swamp on Wednesday evening.

Monroe won both head-to-head contests over Hostos during this year's regular season. The first was a 97-48 triumph at Monroe Athletic Complex back on December 2. The Blue and Gold also won the second game, 78-65, at The Swamp on January 15. 

Leading the way for the Express has been Beverly Williams who is averaging 18.5 points and 4.8 steals per game this season. Her career totals of 1,032 points and 256 steals are the most in program history. Salimah Williams is compiling 12.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per contest in 2025-26. She is on top of the program's all-time list with 259 career helpers. Aneyah McLamb is producing 14.1 points and 7.8 rebounds an outing and has blocked 21 shots this year.

For the Caimans, Makayla Lima is generating 13.2 points, 8.0 boards, and 5.8 assists per contest. Assiatou Traore is recording a double-double per game with 10.2 points and 11.9 rebounds. She is also averaging 3.7 blocks per contest. Maya Morrison has tallied 9.6 points and 4.9 caroms per outing.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
