Express Women's Volleyball Drops Region 15 Match on Sophomore Night Against Nassau; Robyn Eddy Sets Program Record for Career Blocks

BRONX – The Monroe University – Bronx women's volleyball team dropped a four-set matchup to Nassau Community College on Tuesday evening at Roberto Clemente State Park Gym, falling 3-1 by scores of 22-25, 25-19, 25-17, and 25-18. The loss moves the Express to 13-9 overall and 12-4 in Region 15 play.

It was Breast Cancer Awareness Night as well as Sophomore Night. The Express honored Sarai Hernandez, Yamelyn Bonilla, Ayleenee Salbitani Lopez, Brycelynn Paul, Robyn Eddy, and team manager Haily Reyes with a ceremony after the match.

Monroe opened the contest strong, taking the first set 25-22 behind 12 kills. However, Nassau responded in the second set, earning a 25-19 win to even the match at one set apiece. The Lions carried that momentum into the third, taking a 25-17 decision before closing out the match with a 25-18 victory in the fourth set.

Bonilla led the Express offensively with 12 kills, while Salbitani Lopez added 10 and Robyn Eddy contributed eight. Salbitani Lopez also led Monroe with seven service aces, while Darilenia Paulino recorded two. Paulino paced the offense with 32 assists.

Eddy anchored Monroe at the net with five total blocks. She now stands alone in first place on the program's all-time career blocks list with 90. She was tied at 85 with Julie Trowers (2018-2019) heading into the match against Nassau, but Eddy's five kills during the contest put her at No. 1 on the team's all-time career blocking list.

Hernandez and Salbitani Lopez each added one blocks.

Paul led the Express with 14 digs, followed by Bonilla with 13 and Jopnerys Espinal Chalas with 12.

Despite the loss, Monroe finished with more kills than Nassau, 36-33, and held a slight edge in assists, 35-33. The Express also recorded 12 service victories, but Nassau's 16 aces helped the visitors gain separation in the later sets.

Nassau (14-3, 3-2 Region 15) was led by Natalie Maser, who recorded 12 kills and five aces. Mia Randazzo finished with 20 assists and six aces, while Takyia Wilder led the Lions with 19 digs.

The Express close out the regular season against Suffolk County Community College on Thursday, October 22. The match will be held at Grant Campus Gymnasium, in Brentwood N.Y. The winner of the critical Region 15 match between the Express and the Sharks will most likely have home-court advantage against the other in the quarterfinal round of the Region 15 Postseason.
