Express Men's Basketball Earns Region 15 Win Over Borough of Manhattan

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Monroe University – Bronx men's basketball team delivered a composed and physical performance in its latest Region 15 matchup against Borough of Manhattan Community College on Tuesday evening, using balanced scoring, strong rebounding, and timely execution to earn the 72-57 victory at BMCC Gymnasium.

The Express controlled the flow of the game by setting the tone defensively and playing through their strengths in the half court. Monroe was active on the glass from the opening tip, creating second-chance opportunities and limiting the opponent's ability to generate extra possessions. Despite a competitive opening stretch, the Express stayed patient offensively and relied on ball movement and interior play to keep pressure on the opposing defense.

"This is a big win," Express freshman guard Jalonie Pittman said. "We are taking every game one step at a time."

Monroe (13-4, 9-2 Region 15) never trailed at any point in the game. BMCC (5-9, 4-8 Region 15) tied it up twice in the first half, but the Blue and Gold entered the intermission with a 32-30 edge. The second half was a different story as the Express outscored the Panthers, 40-27, during the final 20 minutes of the contest. Monroe built its lead to 68-48 en route the 15-point win.

"We came out with good energy and great focus," Express Head Coach Chris Neely said. "We made some plays to close it out. I am proud of our defense. Our rotations were good in the second half."

Pittman led the Express with 19 points and eight rebounds. Steven McGriff followed with a strong all-around effort, finishing with 14 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

In the frontcourt, Adrian Rosario was a consistent presence, recording 15 points and seven rebounds, battling inside and finishing through contact. Off the bench, Andi Metaliaj provided a major spark, contributing eight points, a trio of rebounds, and just as many assists. Malike Smart also had eight points. Paolo Avvento compiled six rebounds and a trio of helpers, while Josmar Acevedo added five caroms.

As a team, the Express shared the ball effectively, stayed disciplined defensively, and capitalized on key possessions late to maintain control. Monroe's ability to win the rebounding battle (45-31) and convert stops into points proved to be a decisive factor in the outcome.

Monroe University – Bronx returns to action on Thursday, January 15, when the Express travel to Hostos Community College for another Region 15 matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. as the Express look to continue building momentum in conference play.
