LINCROFT, N.J. – The Monroe University – Bronx softball team dropped both games of its doubleheader to nationally ranked No. 4 Brookdale Community College, 24-1 and 16-2, at Brookdale CC Softball Field on Thursday afternoon. Brookdale bumps its record to 19-5.
In the opening game,
Ciara Harriott hit two singles, scored a run, and drew a walk for the Express (4-23).
Genesis Matias produced an RBI single, while
Darlene Pena Puente earned a base hit of her own.
In Game 2, Rodriguez went 2-for-2 and drew a walk.
Jaliyah Rosario doubled and drove in two runs with a single.
Jalyn Miner and Pena Puente each produced a base hit, with the latter scoring a run, while
Michelle Cortes Molina drew a walk. Harriott scored a run.
Monroe – Bronx will continue to battle strong competition on Sunday with a pair of games against nationally ranked No. 7 Community College of Rhode Island. First pitch at Flowers Park is set for noon.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
