Express Baseball Earns Convincing Win Over BMCC in Region 15 Play

BELLEROSE, N.Y. – The Monroe University – Bronx baseball team earned another Region 15 victory on Tuesday afternoon, this time defeating Borough of Manhattan Community College by a score of 13-3 at Padavan-Preller Field. Monroe was the home team for the contest.

The Express bump their undefeated Region 15 record to 5-0 (5-9 for the season), while BMCC drops to 0-5 both in the region and overall.

The game began with Monroe taking an early lead. In the bottom of the first inning, Yan Ortiz Torres scored on a balk, and then Giovanny Flores added to the score with an RBI hit by pitch with the bases loaded, bringing the score to 2-0 in favor of Monroe University.

The second inning saw Pablo Aquino extend Monroe's lead with a double to right center, bringing in Nomar Rodriguez to make it 3-0.

Despite a strong response from BMCC in the third inning, where Michael Marra singled to bring Nassaiah Flores home, Monroe continued to dominate. In the bottom of the third, Aquino's RBI single and a wild pitch allowed additional runs to score, pushing the Express' lead to 5-1.

Monroe University added more runs in the fourth inning. Giovanny Flores executed an RBI walk with the bases loaded and Anthony Sanchez's RBI hit by pitch increased its advantage to 7-1.

In the home half of the fifth inning, Ortiz Torres launched a two-run homer down the left-field line and over the fence, bringing the score to 9-1 in favor of the Blue and Gold. The home run was a powerful moment for Torres, who had been contributing significantly to the team's performance all game.

The Panthers showed signs of a comeback in the sixth inning when Isaiah Jerry walked with the bases loaded, bringing in a run to make it 9-2, and Nassaia Flores added an RBI on a groundout, making it 9-3. However, the Express' offense continued to overwhelm the Panthers. In the same inning, Aquino doubled again, bringing in a run, followed by a balk that allowed another Monroe runner to cross the plate. The score quickly ballooned to 11-3. The Blue and Gold kept the pressure on BMCC later in the frame when Ortiz Torres's sacrifice fly added another run to make it a 12-3 benefit.

In the bottom of the eighth, Robert Herrera's bases-loaded walk scored the 13th run for the home team and clinched the victory for the Express.

Jayden Moya got the win on the mound for Monroe by going five innings, striking out six batters, and giving up just three earned runs. Daniel Pena Puente had a strong relief outing by tossing 2.1 innings giving up just one walk, no runs, and no hits, while fanning four BMCC hitters.

At the plate for Monroe - Bronx, Aquino went 3-for-4 including two doubles, while driving in three runs, scoring twice, drawing a walk, and stealing a base. Christopher Marlin went 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, a stolen base, and he crossed home plate. Edwin Minaya Jr., Herrera, and Juan Diaz each worked three walks. Diaz stole a base, while Minaya Jr. and Herrera each scored a run. Elijah Andino and Jesus Guerrero each scored as well. Flores hit a double and came around to score. Sanchez and Ortiz Torres each scored twice.
