Express Baseball Wins Region 15 Opener Over Queensborough

BELLEROSE, N.Y. – The Monroe University – Bronx baseball team earned a convincing win in its Region 15 opener against Queensborough Community College, 14-0, at Padavan-Preller Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Leading the way for the Express (1-9, 1-0 Region 15) was starting pitcher Jayden Moya who got the win by striking out six batters and giving up just three hits in six shutout innings pitches.

Monroe opened the scoring in the top of the first as Christopher Marlin delivered a two-run single as part of a five-run frame for the Blue and Gold.

In the top of the third, an RBI double by Herrera and then a run-scoring single off the bat of Joeliel Cruz inflated Monroe's cushion to 7-0.

The Express added four more runs in the third, highlighted by a two-run single courtesy of Herrera and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Adrian Nunez, to pad Monroe's benefit to 11-0.

In the top of the sixth, a couple of wild pitches and a bases-loaded walk by Pablo Aquino increased the Express' advantage to 14-0.

In the bottom of the seventh, Luis Roman came in relief for Monroe and pitched a scoreless inning without giving up a hit to clinch the regional win for the Express over the Tigers (0-1, 0-1 Region 15).
