GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Monroe University – Bronx men's volleyball team suffered a pair of regional losses in a Region 15 Tri-Match, on the campus of Nassau Community College, on Saturday afternoon. The Express lost the first match to host-Nassau 3-0 and were then defeated by Monroe University – New Rochelle in straight sets.
In the opening match against the Lions (18-2, 7-0 Region 15), set scores were 25-13, 25-11, and 25-16.
For the Express (7-16, 3-4 Region 15),
Jeremy Rivera-Aponte slammed home five kills, while
Darren Lopez notched three putdowns and six digs.
Aiverson Guillen chipped in on defense with three digs, while
Wiltor Cubas helped with five assists.
In the contest against the Mustangs (12-6, 5-2 Region 15), set scores were 25-10, 25-15, 25-13.
Monroe – Bronx got off to a good start in the opening set as a block by
Mickey Mingo gave the Express a 4-1 lead. However, the Mustangs finished the frame on a 24-6 run to claim the first set. Monroe – New Rochelle never trailed in the remaining two sets to earn the regional win.
For Monroe – Bronx, Lopez slammed home six kills and added three digs. Rivera-Aponte provided three kills and two digs.
Marvin Culmer,
Edwin Ortega, and Mingo each notched a trio of putdowns.
David Garcia compiled 13 assists and three defensive bumps. Cubas recorded five assists, while Guillen tallied five digs.
Monroe – Bronx will host Passaic Community College at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium on Monday evening. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.

The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
