Express Basketball Teams to Compete in Region 15 Semifinals on Saturday

BRONX – The Monroe University – Bronx women's and men's basketball teams will be competing in the Region 15 Semifinals on the campus of Kingsborough Community College on Saturday afternoon.

The third-seeded Express women's team will take on second-seeded and nationally ranked No. 5 Kingsborough at 2:00 p.m.

The No. 3-seed Express men's team will battle No. 2-seed and defending Region 15 Champion Hostos Community College at 6:00 p.m.

The winners of the semifinal contests will compete in the Region 15 Championship games at Kingsborough CC on Sunday (women's game at 12:00 p.m., men's contest at 2:30 p.m.).

On the women's side, Kingsborough won both games over Monroe – Bronx this season, including a thrilling 73-71 contest, at Monroe Athletic Complex, back on February 6. The Express won its regional first-round matchup over sixth-seeded Suffolk County Community College, 74-34, at the MAC this past Tuesday. Kingsborough earned a first-round bye. The Express are the reigning three-time Region 15 Champions and will look to win their fourth straight title. 

For the men, nationally ranked No. 14 Hostos went 2-0 over Monroe during the regular season. The Express topped sixth-seeded Queensborough Community College in the regional quarterfinal contest, 65-58, at the MAC this past Tuesday. The Caimans captured its second straight CUNYAC Championship over Kingsborough, 93-84, at Borough of Manhattan Community College Gymnasium on February 21. Then, Hostos defeated seventh-seeded BMCC, 113-91, at The Swamp on Tuesday. Monroe and Hostos met in the regional semifinal last season, a contest won by the Caimans, 79-78, on March 2, 2024 at Kingsborough Gym.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
