LINCROFT, N.J. – The Monroe University – Bronx men's basketball team concluded its weekend at the Brookdale Classic on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 78–62 decision to nationally ranked No. 8 Northern Essex Community College (1-1) at Robert J. Collins Arena.
The Express (1-1) battled throughout the matchup, showing resilience in the second half after facing an early deficit. The Express were narrowly outscored by Northern Essex 39–37 after the intermission and displayed improved efficiency at the free-throw line, shooting 90.9 percent in the final period.
Steven McGriff led the way with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including two three-pointers, while also recording seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals in another strong all-around performance. 
Adrian Rosario delivered 10 points and six rebounds, converting 6-of-7 from the line, while 
Josmar Acevedo provided a boost off the bench with 11 points and three made triples. 
Caleb Dunn contributed seven points and an assist, and 
Malike Smart added four points, four rebounds, and two assists while anchoring the defense. 
Monroe's depth once again stood out, as the bench contributed 35 of the team's 62 points. The Express are continuing to build chemistry early in the season.
Monroe – Bronx will return to action on Thursday, November 6, when they host Queensborough Community College in the home opener at Monsignor Scanlan High School. The Region 15 opener is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA 
Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
