SELDEN, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 7 Monroe University – Bronx women's basketball continued its dominant run through the early season, powering past Suffolk County Community College, 69–48, on Tuesday night at Brookhaven Gym. With the victory, the Express improve to 9–1 overall and remain perfect at 5–0 in Region 15 play.
From the opening tip, Monroe set the tone with relentless defensive pressure and explosive transition play; hallmarks of their identity this season. After a competitive first half, the Express broke the game open with a crushing 16–5 third-quarter surge, smothering Suffolk County's (4-3, 3-2 Region 15) offense and forcing a wave of turnovers that flipped momentum permanently in their favor.
Sophomore standout
Aneyah McLamb delivered another powerhouse performance, finishing with 20 points, six rebounds, seven steals, and three assists while shooting an efficient 10-of-16 from the field. Her presence on both ends ignited Monroe's runs and kept the Express in full control.
Right behind her,
Beverly Williams poured in 14 points and seven steals, knocking down three triples and sparking multiple fastbreak opportunities.
Lea Tavarez added a huge lift off the bench, scoring 14 points with four made threes, including back-to-back daggers that pushed the lead to double digits in the fourth.
Salimah Williams filled the stat sheet for the Blue and Gold with 11 points and eight assists, directing the offense and applying constant pressure defensively. Monroe's depth also showed once again, with the bench contributing 24 points and multiple players stepping into key moments.
Freshman guard
Jhency Pabon added a crucial pair of threes for Monroe, while
Jazmyne Rios and
Sade Gibbs anchored the interior with valuable rebounds and second-chance plays.
Defensively, the Express were suffocating, forcing 36 Suffolk County turnovers and converting them into 29 points off the Sharks' miscues, while also racking up 24 steals as a team.
