Express Men's Soccer Closes Out Regular Season With Region 15 Win At Dutchess

HYDE PARK, N.Y. – The Monroe University – Bronx men's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 5-1 Region 15 victory on the road over Dutchess Community College, on the campus of Culinary Institute of America, on Tuesday afternoon.

Monroe (8-4-2, 8-2-2 Region 15) trailed 1-0 at the half but then scored five unanswered goals in the second stanza to clinch the come-from-behind victory.

Salim Anas had a big afternoon for the Express with three goals, including the official match-winner, while adding an assist. He concludes the regular season with four goals and just as many assists in nine matches played. 

Miguel Espinal also had a big match for the Express against Dutchess (4-9-1, 3-8-1 Region 15) as he delivered the goal that tied the game at one and provided two helpers, including the one on Anas' match-winner. 

Jonathan Lima returned to action for Monroe and tallied an assist. Juan Ramirez also added a provider. 

In net, Angel Grijalva got the win for the Blue and Gold by tallying a pair of saves to keep Dutchess scoreless in the second half. Kimany Arzu stopped three shots for Monroe during the opening stanza.

Gavin Secor made 13 saves for the Falcons.

Monroe – Bronx secured the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Region 15 Tournament. The Express will take on nationally ranked No. 10 and fourth-seeded Nassau Community College on Saturday at Mitchel Athletic Complex. The action begins at 5 p.m.

Dutchess will enter the regional postseason as the No. 8 seed and will take on top-seeded and nationally ranked No. 9 Suffolk County Community College on that same day. The contest at Ammerman Campus Soccer Field will start at 1 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
