Express Women's Volleyball Secures Two Important Regional Wins at Region 15 Double Dual

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – The Monroe University – Bronx women's volleyball team earned two key Region 15 victories on the campus of Orange County Community College on Saturday afternoon. The Express defeated Dutchess Community College in straights sets and defeated host-Orange County by a score of 3-0.

Monroe is now 8-1 in the region and 11-3 overall.

"Two sweeps, one strong rhythm," Express Head Coach Odaly Aponte-Orta said. "The team is locked in and working together. We'll keep grinding!"

In the victory over Dutchess (7-8, 7-5 Region 15), set scores were 25-22, 25-17, and 25-21. 

Cherlialix Carmona led the way for the Express with a double-double by slamming 12 kills and providing 13 digs. Gabriela De La Rosa compiled 10 putdowns and five defensive bumps. Aleishka Diaz anchored the defense with a match-high 19 digs. Kaileex Batista had a double-double of her own with 14 assists and 11 digs, while scoring eight service aces. 

Also helping Monroe against the Falcons was Sarai Hernandez who notched five successful attacks, four digs, and a pair of blocks. Julia Ramos generated 10 helpers, six digs, and four aces. Ayleenee Lopez scored three kills and added a block, while Brycelynn Paul chipped in with four digs. Robyn Eddy generated four kills, an assist, and one block.

In the win over Orange County (8-6, 6-5 Region 15), set scores were 26-24, 25-17, and 25-13. 

Carmona once again had 12 kills, this time with an incredible .500 hitting percentage, while adding six digs on defense. De La Rosa finished with eight kills and four defensive bumps. Diaz once again led all players with 19 digs. She also helped with four assists and six service aces. Ramos provided 16 helpers, two aces, and just as many digs. Batista had a solid match with 10 assists, five aces, and four defensive bumps. Paul added five digs, while Eddy tallied three kills and a block.

Yamelyn Bonilla helped the Blue and Gold against the Colts with three kills and a dig. Diamondnique Stephenson recorded a kill, two digs, and a block. Hernandez led all players with four blocks. She also provided two kills, four digs, and an ace. Lopez notched a successful attack and a defensive bump. 

Monroe will host The New School in a non-region matchup at Monsignor Scanlan Gymnasium on Tuesday evening. First serve is set for 7 p.m. 

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
