NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 15 Monroe University – Bronx women's basketball team earned a convincing victory over the Queensborough Community College Club Team, 94-20, at the Monroe Athletic Complex on Tuesday evening.
The Express (12-4) jumped out to a commanding 17-0 lead and never looked back.
Making her collegiate debut for Monroe – Bronx was freshman
Winter Smith who tallied a double-double with 12 points and 13 steals, the latter which ties a program single-game record, while dishing out seven assists and grabbing six rebounds. Smith joins Julie Trowers at the top of the program single-game record book for steals as Trowers collected 13 of them against Bronx Community College on January 15, 2019 at the MAC.

Winter Smith to the rotation is and will be a big boost," Express Head Women's Basketball Coach
Damel Ling said. "She brings a level of confidence and a sense of urgency that bolster the group."
Also helping the Express was freshman
Beverly Williams who generated a game-high 23 points, while forcing five steals, gathering three boards, and dishing out two assists. Sophomore
Makira Bunsie added 21 points, seven caroms, and a trio of steals.
Second-year player
Da'Mya Cheatham and rookie
Amira McCleod registered eight points and three rebounds each for Monroe. Sophomores
Tiffany Newsome and
Davian Myers each snatched eight caroms, with the former scoring five points, delivering four assists, and collecting three steals. The latter delivered a duo of assists and picked up just as many steals.
During the evening, Monroe forced Queensborough (2-8) to commit 42 turnovers, and the Express scored 48 points off the Tigers' miscues. Monroe had the advantage in rebounds during the contest, 61-33.
"Tonight, our overall effort was good," Ling said. "We got a chance to shake some of the rust off from the break."
It will be a big test for No. 15 Monroe – Bronx on Thursday with a national showdown against nationally ranked No. 10 Community College of Rhode Island. Tipoff at CCRI Gymnasium, in Warwick, R.I., is set for 6:00 p.m.

The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe University marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
