BRONX - Monroe Express sophomore pitcher
Adrian Quezada earned a spot on the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings NJCAA Division III Baseball All-America third team. The NJCAA made the announcement on Monday afternoon which can be seen
here. Quezada becomes the fourth player in program history to earn ABCA/Rawlings NJCAA All-America team honors.
This season, Quezada helped Monroe - Bronx earn a berth in the Region 15 Championship Round for the third year in a row by earning six wins and striking out a program single-season best 105 batters which propelled him to earn a spot on the All-Region 15 first team. The second-year phenom threw a no-hitter at Bronx Community College on April 23. During that contest, he struck out 13 batters and gave up just a pair of walks.
The Bronx resident reached double figures in strikeouts five times this year, including 16 strikeouts in his final regular season start which was a complete-game victory over Queensborough Community College on April 30. He finished the season with an earned run average of 3.09. Another big game he pitched was against nationally ranked No. 14 Suffolk County Community College, on April 12, as he struck out 12 batters and gave up just one earned run on two hits in seven innings pitched to earn the complete-game win.
Quezada racked up five complete-game victories during the season and earned a spot on the Region 15 All-Tournament team.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
